Sheeps wool from Europe

Sheep's wool warms well, is moisture-regulating and ensures a pleasant, dry sleeping climate. Prolana only processes sheep's wool from controlled organic animal husbandry - it currently comes from Germany, France, Switzerland and Great Britain.

Sheep's wool is used in many of our products. For example as a covering for mattresses and toppers or as filling material for mattress pads, blankets and pillows. Wool has a fluffy volume and good thermal properties, absorbs a lot of moisture and – thanks to its wool fat – has a natural cleaning effect. The protection, warmth and well-being offered by wool have been valued by people all over the world for thousands of years. Sheep not only preserve our cultural landscapes and protect them from desertification - they can also cope with high temperature fluctuations. This has to do with the structure of their wool. The crimped wool fibers enclose an air pocket that allows the wool to store or dissipate heat. They can absorb about a third of their weight in moisture and quickly release it into the air. The fur ensures that the sheep is neither too cold nor too hot. Some sheep are on the pasture all year round and can even withstand snow and frost. The wool obtained after shearing retains these temperature-regulating properties. They also ensure that virgin wool bedding is very suitable for the summer. The wool hair is self-cleaning thanks to the natural wool fat lanolin - airing in the fresh air is usually sufficient.
